Senior Research Scientist

Population Biology, Marine Mammal Health and Disease 

Dr. Pam Yochem is a senior research scientist and executive vice president of research at Hubbs-SeaWorld Research Institute with an emphasis on population biology, marine mammal health and disease. She has studied the population biology and behavioral ecology of marine mammals and seabirds in the North Pacific since 1980 and completed a Master of Science degree at San Diego State University in 1987.  In 1992 she was awarded the degree of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (wildlife emphasis) from the University of California at Davis, School of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Yochem chairs the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee for the Institute.  Her current research projects include: health assessment and pathology of pinnipeds in the North Pacific and the Antarctic; population biology and foraging ecology of pinnipeds at the California Channel Islands; and migratory behavior of Antarctic seals.  In 2008 Dr. Yochem received her Ph.D. in Comparative Pathology from the University of California, Davis.
