Don Hunsaker II PhD

Avian Ecology and Behavior 

Dr. Hunsaker has over 35 years of experience working in the fields of biological research, education and resource management. He has represented United States science programs in most countries of South America; participated in research programs in the United States and most of the continents of the world. His research at Hubbs involves the effects of human activities on endangered species, focusing on the effects of noise on the avian fauna. Dr. Hunsaker has been working closely with Dr. Scott on sea turtle research and conservation in the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. The work includes satellite telemetry tracking of the turtles and correlation with oceanic and biotic factors that determine habitat selection of leatherback turtles and other species. Dr. Hunsaker worked in the Caribbean on protection and management of nesting beaches in northern Colombia as part of the US State Department staff member with the Peace Corps/Smithsonian program in South America.
